Do you remember the debate where Texas Governor Rick Perry accused Mitt Romney of removing a passage from his book stating that Romney thought that RomneyCare should be a model for the nation?
It went like this:
PERRY: “Well, I’m listening to you, Mitt, and I’m hearing you say all the right things. But I read your first book, and it said in there that your mandate in Massachusetts, which should be the model for the country — and I know it came out of the reprint of the book, but, you know, I’m just saying, you were for individual mandates, my friend.”
ROMNEY: “You know what, you’ve raised that before, Rick. And you’re simply wrong.”
PERRY: “It was true then …”
ROMNEY: “No, no …”
PERRY: “And it’s true now.”
ROMNEY: “Rick, I’ll tell you what …”
ROMNEY: “… 10,000 bucks? $10,000 bet?”
Well, it turns out that Romney owes Perry a payoff on that bet.
ABC News reported that 11 words were removed from the Romney book in question. The words We can accomplish the same thing for everyone in the country.
And worse, while Romney is going around the country and telling people in the debates that RomneyCare was a solution only for Massachusetts and was not intended to be a model for the country, his own words in an OpEd make him a liar.
In a 2009 OpEd appearing in USA Today that is being scrubbed from the internet as fast as possible (Click the link here to see for yourself) Romney not only advocates the Insurance Mandate that most feel is unconstitutional, but was also telling everyone that would listen that Obama should use RomneyCare as a model for ObamaCare.
In the USA Today OpEd, Romney wrote about the Insurance Mandate in RomneyCare:

Our experience also demonstrates that getting every citizen insured doesn’t have to break the bank. First, we established incentives for those who were uninsured to buy insurance. Using tax penalties, as we did, or tax credits, as others have proposed, encourages “free riders” to take responsibility for themselves rather than pass their medical costs on to others. This doesn’t cost the government a single dollar.
And Romney has a problem with those who meet their deductible getting a free ride, and offered a “solution” to the “problem” of patients meeting their maximum “out of pocket” for the year. He would charge them anyway!
Require patients to pay a portion of their bill, except for certain conditions. And providers could be paid an annual fixed fee for the primary care of an individual and a separate fixed fee for the treatment of a specific condition.
Talk about government intrusion!
And during the health care debate, was Romney talking about the 10th Amendment and how RomneyCare was only for his state? Hardly!
There’s a better way. And the lessons we learned in Massachusetts could help Washington find it.
No. Romney was inviting the President to adopt RomneyCare, which he now denies.
And this clip from Meet the Press in 2009 shows Romney urging Obama to adopt RomneyCare for the nation:
And in 2008, Romney was advocating for Universal Healthcare. After winning in his home state of Michigan, this short clip shows Romney supporting Universal Healthcare:
Clearly, back in 2007 and 2008 Romney predicted the debate on Health Care would center between a complete government takeover, the “Single Payer” option that the Democrats and Candidate Obama wanted and a Government mandated and controlled hybrid solution that used private insurance, forced compliance and the heavy hand of government to control health care.
But Romney never predicted that the debate would center, not on how much Government would control, but how little. As in get the hell out of Health Care!
Romney is comfortable with big government solutions giving lip service to “private sector” involvement, but the power and control ultimately must lie in the Government.
The emergence of a greater number of people who actually read the US Constitution and demand that the Federal Government adhere to it’s enumerated powers runs counter to everything Romney holds dear.
There is no such thing as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny or a Massachusetts Conservative.
Mitt Romney will say anything to get elected. He has become quite comfortable telling Americans that he never intended RomneyCare to be a model for the country, but the facts show this is simply not true. He was proud of the Massachusetts takeover of Health Care and advocated for the same thing for America. He failed to say he was wrong on RomneyCare and has embraced it as a state only solution, after clearly calling for RomneyCare to be the model for ObamaCare.
Romney ran for Governor as Pro-Choice because a Pro-Life candidate has no chance in the Liberal stronghold of Massachusetts. Yet when he became Governor, he vetoed any Pro-Choice legislation.
“On a personal basis, I don’t favor abortion. However, as governor of the commonwealth, I will protect a woman’s right to choose under the laws of the country and the commonwealth. That’s the same position I’ve had for many years.”
So, what did he do as Governor? He vetoed any and all Pro-Choice bills that came across his desk, even going so far as to return from a vacation early with his veto pen because the Lt. Governor would have signed a Pro-Choice bill into law.
Now I don’t have a problem with Romney killing Pro-Abortion legislation at all. What I do have a problem with is the man’s honesty. As I see it, he lied to the overwhelmingly Pro-Choice people of Massachusetts. And while I agree with his actions, he still failed to keep his promises.
And now he is Pro-Life. A necessary position to win the Republican nomination.
Former President Clinton claimed he never inhaled. I saw that as a lie at the time. Either he inhaled and lied about it, or he pretended to inhale and lied to his friends to “fit in”.
Either way, he lied.
And I see the same deceptive patterns with Romney.
He did push for RomneyCare to be the model for America – including mandates.
He did publish that desire in his book and then deleted it. And denied he deleted it!
He did promise to support a woman’s “right” to abortion and then vetoed every Pro-Choice bill.
I simply don’t believe that Romney can be trusted or believed. There is far too much concrete evidence that he will say anything to get elected and then do what he wants afterwards.
And we know he wants bigger government, more Federal control and a Massachusetts-like Nanny state for America.
Barack Obama is salivating over the prospects of running against Romney and his inability to be truthful. At the very least, Obama promised to “spread the wealth” and force energy prices to skyrocket.
If nothing else, Obama has been truthful on his desire to grow government and remove all personal liberty from Americans and destroy life in America as we have known it.
Romney has the same goals as Obama, he just pretends he doesn’t.
Deception is Romney’s strong suit.
God help America if this man is the Republican Nominee.
